Never refuse to try out the taste

To feel Lunar New Year, better to visit some traditional places, such as Festival, or the best place, traditional market, especially before noon. Not like neat, clean, A/C supermarkets have prices on each item and you pick and go, traditional market has less price signs, but open the mouth and ask.

Two days before Lunar New Year, markets were packed with moms who went to shop for big meal preparation. Most stands in the markets called for all family to help, from mother-in law to daughter-in law to grandchildren, everyone came to help this annual big thing.

Me, squeezed between moms and grandmoms, hold a cabbage on hand, tried to find a spot to talk to the owner, “give me some mushrooms” when others kept asking “how much for the sweet pea” “how much the taro is”. Damn, I should push harder and yell louder so the owner could heard me earlier.

To be short, this kind of loud and crowd makes holiday true feeling, not something like, oh-yeah, holiday begin, let's go travel.

Stands in traditional markets usually have some different than usual before Lunar New Year. Some only can be seen during this period of time and some will be double stands than usual.

Soy Pig Foot, usual stuff, but see more before Lunar New Year; whole BBQ chicken or duck for the dinner table; Taiwan local chicken ready to cut and eat; New Year snacks only be seen this period of time; pallet radish cakes to sell in pieces.

One good thing to go around the market is to try different food. In fact, once a while you can feel so satisfy when go around the market as long as you have guts to take each test tray and finish every of them.
